Study at our department as an international student—either as part of an exchange program or with the goal of earning a degree. There are no tuition fees at Freie Universität. Our 19 institutes offer a wide range of BA and MA programs, many of which are taught in English.

This page brings together numerous support and information services from the Department of History and Cultural Studies and the Freie Universität. Help is available with organizing your studies, as well as psychological support for stress and difficult life situations. Tips on finding accommodation, work, and financial support make it easier to get started in Berlin. The International Office (Hauke Ziemssen) is the point of contact for international students. Our student mentors provide quick and straightforward assistance with all questions relating to everyday university life.

Preparing your stay at Freie Universität

When planning your stay in Berlin and at Freie Universität, there are a few important steps to keep in mind—such as applying for a degree program or exchange program, applying for a visa, or searching for an apartment. Be sure to read our checklists and websites for international students.

Application

Prospective degree-seeking students for MA programs who hold a foreign university degree need to apply through the FU application portal. IMPORTANT: 4-8 weeks before applying for a master's program, you need to apply for a review of your documents at the organization uni-assist.
