Support during the semester

If you need support during the semester—e.g., with campus management, settling in, or simply finding the right contact person—we are here to help. The International Office of the department has an open door policy - you can always visit Kristina Cassar or Hauke Ziemssen in their offices, contact them by email or call them (contact information).

However, there are also a number of individuals and institutions that you should contact first for most everyday questions.

  • Student mentors also offer support during the winter semester. (especially with questions regarding organization of studies or life at university and in Berlin in general)

- for the MA programs AAW, DISTANT, Iranian Studies, ISME, Islamic World, and Semitic Studies, Student Mentor Alia Awad holds consultation hours each Friday 10 am to 12 via WebEx (https://fu-berlin.webex.com/meet/aliaamia02). She can also be reached by email (aliaamia02@zedat.fu-berlin.de). Don’t hesitate to drop by in Webex or write Alia an email if you’d like to arrange an in-person meeting.

- for the MA program MAGEA, the student mentor is Ian Harano Grey (Ihgrey@aol.com)

- for the MA program Global History, there are two mentors who can be reached at faculty events and office hours

  • If you have questions regarding the academic program (choosing the right course etc.), please contact the academic advisors/coordinators of your programs or, in more specific cases, your class instructors.
  • If you have any technical questions, e.g. about course selection in Campus Management, credit transfer, or completing modules, please contact the department's Office of Academic Affairs and Examinations.
  • If you have questions regarding studying at Freie Universität Berlin in general (such as admission, student registration...), contact Freie Universität's Student Services Center
  • For psychological support in moments of personal crisis or problems, please contact the nearest support.point (more information here).
