Funding Opportunities for Study Visits

With the exception of some graduate or postgraduate programs, Freie Universität Berlin does not charge tuition; students are only responsible for paying certain fees and charges per semester. These fees and charges are subject to change.

Your living expenses will, of course, depend primarily on your personal needs and habits. You should expect to spend at least 600 to 800 Euros (rent, food, free time, etc.). In order to obtain an entry visa or a residence permit for study purposes, you must prove that you can dispose of this montly amount independtly of a job.

Please check with your home university for funding options.

There are many opportunities for international students in Germany to earn money during their studies, e.g. as a waiter, researcg assistant or private tutor. However, there are some regulations. The German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) and the Freie Universität Berlin have some very helpful information on this topic.

The Freie Universität Berlin does not award grants or scholarships. Foreign students can apply for scholarships from numerous organizations, such as the DAAD, partly-affiliated foundations, or business-related institutions. Information on the different types of scholarships can be found on the DAAD website, including a scholarship database.
