Related area (“affiner Bereich”)
Related areas or related modules are part of a mono bachelor's degree program. Modules from other bachelor's degree programs are taken here, which are generally related to the core subject and complement the subject profile of the degree program. These are interdisciplinary studies that provide students with an extended but self-contained qualification profile.
We generally recommend starting with the related subjects in the 3rd semester.
You decide for yourself which modules you enroll in, provided that the subjects offering them agree to your enrolment. Please note that there are certain quota agreements for some subjects/modules. You can also apply for a related module package. All information can be found here.
If you are planning to study up to 30 credit points in the same subject, it makes sense to apply for a related module package. If you are accepted, you will then usually be booked into the package via CM and can register independently for the desired modules/courses within the package in CM and take part in the regular allocation procedure during the registration period. You do not have to contact the lecturers for each individual course to enquire about the possibility of participation.
You can find an overview of the possible packages and information on the enrolment procedure here.
If you would like to choose modules from different subject areas, this is done via individual module registrations after consultation with the lecturers.
Please note: this does not apply to external degree programs with which we have contingent agreements; in these cases, you must apply for a related module package (information here). Please also note that credit points are only awarded for taking complete modules.
Further information and details on the application procedure can be found here.
The related area cannot usually be booked via CM. The registration procedure depends on the area of study from which you wish to select modules.
You can find all information on enrolment here.
