Related area (“affiner Bereich”)
Related areas or related modules are part of a mono bachelor's degree program. Modules from other bachelor's degree programs are taken here, which are generally related to the core subject and complement the subject profile of the degree program. These are interdisciplinary studies that provide students with an extended but self-contained qualification profile.
We generally recommend starting with the related subjects in the 3rd semester.
You decide for yourself which modules you would like to take, as long as the offering department agrees or there are no limitations.
Please note that there are certain contingent agreements for some disciplines/modules (= limited module allocation).
All information can be found here: affin.geschkult.fu-berlin.de.
In general, you can choose modules from other BA degree programs according to your interests and with the agreement of the lecturers (= „free module allocation“).
However, due to limited capacities, there are so-called contingent agreements with many departments, where only a certain selection of modules is available in limited numbers (= „limited module allocation“).
There are limitations in the following departments:
- Department of Education and Psychology
- Department of Earth Sciences
- Department of Philosophy and Humanities
- Department of Political and Social Sciences
- School of Business and Economics
Please note the relevant application procedure.
Further information can be found at: affin.geschkult.fu-berlin.de
The related area cannot usually be booked via CM. The registration procedure depends on the area of study from which you wish to select modules.
You can find all information on enrolment here.
If we receive more applications than there are places available, we will draw lots. You will be notified of the result by e-mail - probably at the beginning of September.
If you have not been allocated a place for the winter semester and there are still places available, you can enquire about this by emailing the GeschKult Office of Student Affairs by March 1st and, if necessary, start with taking related modules in the summer semester.
