Transition from BA to MA

In principle, a BA degree is required! If this is not yet available at the time of application (usually by 31 May), you can also apply with a certificate of achievement (so-called 2/3 certificate). If you then receive a place on the degree program of your choice, you will be conditionally enrolled for this program and must submit the BA certificate within the first MA semester.

Please note, however, that all BA coursework must be submitted to the lecturer or Examination Office by 30 September. The winter semester is then only used for the assessments and the subsequent issue of the final documents for the cancellation of the admission restriction.

Here you will find an overview of time management for a smooth transition from BA to MA if there is no oral examination in the BA.

As a Bachelor's student, you are not allowed to take part in Master's modules without further consideration. We would like to point out that access to Master's modules generally requires a successful BA degree.

If you would like to enroll in Master's courses in advance, you must give reasons for this in your written application and, if necessary, also refer to your current BA status.

In addition, we require a brief confirmation from the responsible MA representatives that you are allowed to participate in the Master's module as you fulfil the admission requirements or have equivalent prior knowledge.

If you are unable to submit proof of your BA degree to the Office of Academic Affairs by 31 March (or 30 September) at the latest, you can apply to be downgraded to the previous BA degree program. You can then reapply for an MA program within the next application period.
