On Wednesday, January 7, 2026, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m., Florian Linsel und Jan Bullenkamp (FU Berlin, Institut für Computational Ancient Studies) will give a lecture entitled "Understanding Cuneiform and Lithic Technologies Using 3D Analyses". The lecture, in English, will also be streamed online (see link below).

Our research focuses on 3D scans of artefacts, how they are created, and how we can develop new methods for analysing them. In this talk, we will explain our workflows ranging from 3D scanning to advanced computational analysis, and demonstrate our methods using cuneiform tablets and lithic artefacts. We will also show how 3D scans of experimental knapping and cuneiform tablets can help us understand the fundamental relation between scars on lithic artefacts and wedges on cuneiform.
