The internet has become a vital medium. In consideration of this, comprehensive access to the internet is provided for every member of the Free University. Please always observe the ZEDAT usage regulations.

Wireless LAN (WLAN)

Students and employees have campus-wide wireless access to the internet with mobile devices (notebooks/laptops, smartphones, PDAs). To this end, ZEDAT operates a comprehensive wireless LAN with various access options. Detailed information about WLAN usage is provided on the corresponding ZEDAT pages. We are also happy to help you with setting up access on your device.

Access at the Desk (LAN)

Department employees receive a wired access to Freie Universität network at their desks. This network connection is provided and set up by IT support. A distinct IP address is allocated for each device (so-called DHCP), which is automatically transmitted to the device together with all the relevant information for network access. The administration of these IP addresses is basically carried out only by IT support. As such, please do not enter unauthorised IP addresses on your devices, as this may result in impairment of the ZEDAT network operation and your access or the access of your colleagues. If you wish to connect a new or additional device, simply contact IT support.

Access in seminar rooms and lecture theatres

Access in seminar rooms and lecture theatres are generally provided only with wireless LAN. If a constantly high bandwidth is required for an event (e.g. for video streams), a wired connection can be provided by arrangement for the respective event. Please contact IT support in a timely manner, i.e. at least two weeks prior to the event.
