Funding for the Advancement of Women

Funding for the Advancement of Women

The application deadline for the Funding is  08. January, 2018

At the Department of History and Cultural Studies, the funds earmarked for the advancement of women serve in particular to support women in their academic career. They are employed in a targeted fashion to promote research and teaching by women in the Department.

Funding applications are invited twice a year, in the summer and winter semester respectively.

Funding lines

(1) Advancement of individual persons

This funding line serves the advancement of women in particular in the area of career development and requires a framework that is clearly defined in terms of time and content.

Examples: attending conferences (only when delivering a paper and only where no other funding is available, e.g. from the individual’s institute, the DAAD); further learning; funding for contracts that give women an entry into their academic profession or assist their career development.

(2) Advancement of gender studies

The goal of funding in this area is to support projects in which gender studies and gender issues play a role. The projects funded can contribute towards initial financing, willingly also as an instrument of co-financing, and must demonstrate a clear feasibility.

Examples: conferences and resulting publications; workshops for young women scholars; further academic events held by the Department that contribute to the networking and visibility of gender studies at the Department.

Who can apply?

In the case of “(1) Advancement of individual persons”, only women in the Department of History and Cultural Studies are eligible to apply. By contrast, in the case of “(2) Advancement of gender studies”, applications are welcomed from all members of the Department of History and Cultural Studies. The applicant and the beneficiary must both demonstrate a clear connection with the chosen project and with the Freie Universität Berlin.

• Only one application per person can be considered per funding round.

• The funding does not provide any scholarship

• Project proposals must not be more than 2000,00 € per funding round.

• Please note that projects for which funding is awarded must be implemented in the year 2018.
