Aktuelle Funktionen

Henny Piezonka ist Professorin für Prähistorische Archäologie an der FU Berlin. Derzeit ist sie PI im SFB 1266 „Transformationsdimensionen“ in Kiel sowie Leiterin verschiedener extern geförderter Forschungsprojekte, etwa in der Mongolei und in Indien.

Wissenschaftlerin und Forscherin

Henny Piezonka studierte Vor- und Frühgeschichte, Klassische Archäologie und Kunstgeschichte in Berlin und Glasgow. Ihre Magisterarbeit zur Forschungsgeschichte der Bronze und Eisenzeit in der ehemaligen Neumark wurde mit dem Humboldt-Preis der Humboldt Universität Berlin und dem Rudolf-Virchow-Preis der Berliner Gesellschaft für Anthropologie, Ethnologie und Urgeschichte ausgezeichnet. Ihre Dissertation zur Ausbreitung der Keramik steinzeitlicher JägerInnen-/SammlerInnen zwischen dem Ural und dem Baltikum aus dem Jahr 2010 wurde mit dem Dr. Walther-Liebehenz Preis (Dr.-Walther-Liebehenz-Stiftung Göttingen) ausgezeichnet.

Zwischen 2004 und 2016 arbeitete Henny Piezonka in verschiedenen Positionen und Forschungsprojekten an den Universitäten Bonn und Greifswald sowie dem Deutschen Archäologischen Institut. Dabei führte sie Feldforschungen in diversen Regionen Europas, Nord- und Inner-Asiens durch, deren Schwerpunkte auf JägerInnen-/SammlerInnen- und pastoral-nomadischen Gesellschaften lagen. 2015 begann sie ein eigenes Forschungsprojekt zur mehrphasigen Fundstelle Veksa in Nordwest-Russland.

Zwischen 2016 und 2023 war sie Juniorprofessorin für Anthropologische Archäologie und Ethnoarchäologie an der Christian-Albrechts-Universität zu Kiel. Als eine der Antragsstellerinnen des seit 2019 laufenden Kieler Excellenzclusters "ROOTS - Konnektivität von Gesellschaft, Umwelt und Kultur in vergangenen Welten" und Ko-sprecherin des Sub-Clusters „ROOTS of Social Inequality - Wurzeln sozialer Ungleichheit“ war sie an Forschungen zur Dynamik sozialer Ungleichheiten und den Verbindungen zwischen Tier- und Pflanzendomestikation einerseits sowie Ernährung und Krankheiten andrerseits beteiligt. Sie ist eine der AntragsstellerInnen des SFB 1266 „TransformationsDimensionen - Mensch-Umwelt Wechselwirkungen in Prähistorischen und Archaischen Gesellschaften“, der 2020 an der Universität Kiel begann, und Co-Antragsstellerin des SFB-Teil-Projektes „Theories of Transformation in Prehsitoric and Archaic Societies“. Als assoziierte Forscherin ist sie in das vom Europäischen Forschungsrat geförderte Projekt „INDUCE – The Innovation, Dispersal and Use of Ceramics in NE Europe“ eingebunden, das von Carl Heron (Britisches Museum) geleitet wird. Im von der Gerda Henkel Stiftung geförderten Projekt "Lost Cities. Wahrnehmung von und Leben mit verlassenen Städten in den Kulturen der Welt" untersuchten Henny Piezonka und ihr Team von 2019 bis 2023 die Rolle(n) und die Wahrnehmung verlassener städtischer Orte innerhalb der mongolischen Nomadengesellschaften im Grenzbereich zwischen Archäologie und Kulturanthropologie.

Henny Piezonka forscht vor allem zu JägerInnen/SammlerInnen- und pastoralen Gemeinschaften sowie zu frühen bäuerlichen Gesellschaften, wobei ein regionaler Schwerpunkt auf der eurasischen Waldzone und der Arktis liegt. In einem breiten Zeitfenster vom Ende der Eiszeit bis zur Gegenwart untersucht sie langfristige soziokulturelle und wirtschaftliche Dynamiken in Verbindung mit Mobilität und sesshaften Lebensweisen in Steppen-, Wald- und Tundra-Umgebungen. Ein Kernthema ihrer Forschung befasst sich mit Neolithisierungskonzepten. Ihre Arbeit verbindet archäologische Feldforschung mit ethnoarchäologischen Untersuchungen bei JägerInnen/FischerInnen- und HirtInnen-Gemeinschaften, um ein diversifiziertes und ontologisch informiertes Verständnis von Lebenswelt und Sachkultur dieser Menschen zu gewinnen.
