Dear friends of the International Club of FU Berlin, A new semester has begun, and we would like to warmly welcome both new and returning students to campus! To celebrate the start of the semester, we have planned a variety of events throughout April to help you explore FU Berlin, meet fellow international students, and enjoy fun activities together. Here are our upcoming events: 🏫 13 April – FU Berlin Campus Tour (ENG) New to campus or want to get to know FU Berlin better? Join our guided campus tour in English and explore important spots around campus, such as study places and student cafés, while meeting other FUB students. 🕒 When: 16:00 onwards 📌 Registration is already open! Please register here 🏺 18 April – Ceramics Workshop & Daytrip Join us for a ceramics workshop and day trip to a small ecological garden in Brandenburg. Reimagining Al-Andalus: Otherness and Identity in Spain

Would you like to explore Spain beyond tourism and the economy? Are you interested in Spanish culture—especially the role of Islam and Judaism in contemporary Spain? Then I warmly invite you to join my X-Tutorial (8 sessions in total, 5 ECTS credits): https://www.fu-berlin.de/vv/de/lv/1076968?m=430435&pc=705990&sm=965826 In this seminar, we will explore a central question: How are Muslim and Jewish communities represented in contemporary Spain? The course takes a deliberately interdisciplinary and methodological approach. Among other things, we will analyze: -Citizenship laws and political discourses -Visual culture, art, and music The syllabus will be developed together with the students and will reflect your interests and thematic priorities. This creates an open space for interdisciplinary research and discussion. Possible topics may include, for example: - A legal, visual-cultural, or architectural analysis of the Mezquita of Córdoba, the urban planning of central Madrid, or the Alhambra - The Andalusia tourism campaign: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=28-OppuIyjg - The influence of Al-Andalus on the Spanish music scene since the 1990s Last semester, we already produced a podcast titled “X-Tutorial: Rethinking Al-Andalus – Otherness and Identity in Spain”, which we published on Spotify. In the podcast, we discuss, among other things, how Al-Andalus was interpreted and instrumentalized during the Franco dictatorship.
