Communicating Research: syllabus, requirements, open sessions

News from Apr 25, 2025

Dear Students,

I'm pleased to inform you that the complete syllabus for our thesis workshops is now available on the blog at https://nodiscipline.hypotheses.org/. The syllabus covers both courses (so it's the same in the two tabs)—"From Interest to Research: MA Thesis Planning Workshops" and "Thesis Writing Group: From Draft to Submission"—with specific sessions marked for each group.

Next Session

Our next session will take place on Tuesday, April 29th, from 10:15-11:45 ONLINE in my personal Webex room: https://fu-berlin.webex.com/meet/victoria.mummelthei

This session on "Thesis partnerships and pathways" is particularly important as it will help establish critical friend partnerships that will benefit you throughout the semester.

Important Note for Students Who Missed One-on-Ones

If you are registered for either course but did not book a one-on-one meeting in April, please carefully review the requirements section of the syllabus. You'll need to email me your responses to the four questions listed there as soon as possible to maintain your course registration.

Course Participation

Remember that while full participation is encouraged (and all of the sessions are open to you, depending on your current needs), you must attend at least 3 sessions and complete one "submit" assignment to pass the course. The syllabus details all pre-session assignments and expectations.

Whether you're just beginning to explore thesis topics or actively writing your thesis, these sessions are designed to provide structure, support, and practical guidance throughout your journey.

One-one-ones and dedicated instructor feedback

I will specify dedicated deadlines for those who want more individual feedback on their current ideas/writings throughout the next week, so if you are more inclined to receive individual feedback from me (keeping in mind that I'm no expert in most things), keep an eye out for these information in the syllabus and requirements, but I will also let you know via email. The slots for the one-on-ones in June will be opned in May.

Please don't hesitate to reach out if you have any questions. And feel free to share this information with your fellow students who may yet need to register for the module or are still not sure whether to take the module this semester or not.

Best regards, Victoria
