Information and deadlines for bachelor applications
The application deadline for the bachelor degree programs is July 15th. Additional information can be found on the website of the FU.
Information and deadlines for master applications
The application deadline for the master degree programs (History, Global History, and Public History) for the winter semester is May 31st. The deadline for the Master of Education is August 15th. Necessary application documents include a bachelor’s certificate or a transcript of records, which includes a preliminary final grade and certifies that you have earned at least two-thirds of the necessary credit points. The final bachelor’s transcript of records including final grade point average is to be handed with the re-registration for the 2nd term.

On the FU website you can find a number of Online Service Assistants (OSA), which will provide you with the most important information on studying at the FU in general as well as on individual areas of study.
Every year, the inFU:tageare held at the end of May, serving as an opportunity for potential students to get to know the university better. On the first day, you can acquire general information regarding fields of studies and also raise individual questions. On the second day, you are invited to attend several lectures and seminars to get some insight into studying history.

BA History
If you received your “Higher Education Entrance Qualification” at a school in Germany, the application process for the BA degree is handled by FU. You can find the online application link as well as further information here.

Information on the Master Programs
Usually, the enrollment period lasts from mid-July to August. You will find the exact dates in your letter of admission. Generally speaking, after the online registration, student applicants should also send their relevant documents by post at due date. Please note that your documents shall NOT be sent directly to the respective institute. The accurate address will always be given on the registration form.
BA History
- General university entrance qualifications (such as school-leaving and university certificates)
- Proof of English language skills at level B1 (CEFR)
MA History
- Bachelor’s degree in history or an equivalent degree with a history component corresponding to that component of the bachelor’s degree in history at Freie Universität Berlin
- Proof of English language skills (level B2 CEFR)
- Proof of skills in another foreign language (level B1 CEFR) or proof of language skills in Latin equivalent to the German Latinum
MA Global History
- An above average degree on par with a Bachelor in History, Regional Studies, or a related field that includes equivalent historical or regional topics (minimum of 60 credits)
- Proof of English language skills at a C1 (CEFR) level or higher
MA Public History
- Bachelor’s degree in history or a related field or an equivalent degree
- Proof of English language skills (level B2 CEFR)

If there are still remaining questions regarding the enrollment process, please turn to the Student Services Center. The institutes and departments are not involved in the enrollment process and are not able to be of assistance.
