Geboren in Madrid, studierte Rocío Da Riva in Madrid, Gent, Erlangen und Würzburg. Sie promovierte an der Universität Würzburg und ist derzeit Ordinarius am Institut für Geschichte und Archäologie der Universität Barcelona. Sie hat an den Keilschrift-Sammlungen von Museen in Europa, Nordamerika und dem Nahen Osten mitgearbeitet. (British Museum, Ashmolean Museum, Vorderasiatisches Museum, University of Pennsylvania Museum, Istanbul Archaeological Museum, Musée du Louvre, Yale Babylonian Collection u. a. ) und hat babylonische Keilschrifttexte studiert und editiert, darunter den Korpus der neobabylonischen Königsinschriften. Ihre Forschungsschwerpunkte sind neobabylonische Verwaltungs- und Geschichtstexte, die politische Geschichte Babylons im ersten Jahrtausend v. Chr. , Tempelritualtexte aus dem hellenistischen Babylonien und literarische Texte aus der späten babylonischen Zeit, darunter die «Göttliche Liebeslieder» (gemisch mit Nathan Wasserman). Da Riva hat zahlreiche Bücher und Artikel zu diesen Themen veröffentlicht, Vorträge und Seminare an verschiedenen Universitäten und Forschungszentren gehalten und war Gastprofessor an der Internationalen Universität von Venedig. Darüber hinaus war sie Gastwissenschaftlerin und hat Kurse an verschiedenen internationalen Institutionen gelehrt (Universität Wien, Julius-Maximilians-Universität Würzburg, Eberhard-Karls-Universität Tübingen, Università Ca» Foscari di Venezia, Armenische Staatliche Universität, Yarmouk-Universität Irbid, etc. )

Schwerpunkt ihrer Arbeit an der KFG 2615 ist die miteinander verflochtene religiöse Leistung und Politik im I. Jahrtausend v. Chr. in Mesopotamien (Assyrien und Babylonien). Mögliche Aspekte, die berücksichtigt werden müssen: königliche Utensilien, religiös-politische Platzgestaltung, das Verhältnis des Königs zu den Tempelhierarchien, die sozialen und kulturellen Auswirkungen der Zurschaustellung königlicher Utensilien (Prozessionen), Stadtplanung im Zusammenhang mit religiös-politischer Performance usw.Frühere Studien haben die Relevanz hellenistischer Tempeltexte für das Studium von Religion und Kult nachgewiesen, und einige dieser Dokumente wurden bereits bearbeitet und studiert (Linssen 2004). Eine umfassende Untersuchung dieser Dokumentation mit modernsten theoretischen und methodischen Ansätzen ist notwendig, um das volle Potenzial dieser Texte für die Analyse der Struktur und Funktionsweise des Tempels und des kultischen Lebens sowohl hinsichtlich der Erhaltung und Weitergabe von Tempelritualen als auch hinsichtlich der sozialen und politischen Funktion ihrer öffentlichen Darbietung (die politischen Implikationen des öffentlichen Gottesdienstes) auszuloten.

Prof Dr. Da Riva Muñoz‘ Ziele umfassen die Identifizierung der Tempelgebiete und der Stadt Babylon, der dort ausgeübten Rituale und die Definition der Rollen, die die verschiedenen Teilnehmer an den Zeremonien spielen, sowie ihrer sozialen Realität und Handlungsmacht. Des Weiteren untersucht sie die Identifikation von Mustern in der Artikulation sakraler Landschaften mit Fokus auf Aspekte der kultischen Topographie und Internodienbeziehungen in religiösen Netzwerken. Außerdem betrachtet sie die Rolle der spätbabylonischen Monarchen als angebliche Gönner der Tempel und des Ausmaßes der königlichen Unterstützung für religiöse Einrichtungen. Zudem analysiert sie die Beziehungen zwischen Königen, Tempeln und Priestern aus diachroner Sicht. Weiterhin geht es um die Untersuchung der Funktion der Aufführung bei der Bewahrung von Tempelritualen in der Keilschrifttradition, unter besonderer Berücksichtigung des Neujahrsfestes.
