In recent years, the rise of populism has impacted the global political landscape. Prof. Dr. Yu Keping’s lecture will delve into global populism from a perspective of political science, and discuss its underlying drivers, manifestations, and consequences, shedding light on the transformative influence of global populism on contemporary politics.

Prof. Dr. Yu Keping 俞可平 is an internationally renowned scholar and political scientist. He is University Chair Professor and Founding Director of the Research Center for Chinese Politics at Peking University. He has previously served as Dean of the School of Government, Peking-University, Founding Director of the China Center for Global Governance and Development and Deputy President of China’s Central Compilation & Translation Bureau, and has undertaken visiting positions at Harvard University and Duke University in the United States, Freie Universität Berlin and the University of Duisburg-Essen in Germany, and the University of Nottingham in the United Kingdom among others. His academic expertise spans a wide range of subjects, including political philosophy, comparative politics, globalization, civil society, governance, and Chinese politics. Throughout his extensive career, Prof. Dr. Yu Keping has made substantial contributions to the field of political science, particularly in the context of China’s political development and governance. His many widely noted publications include „Globalization and Changes in China’s Governance“ (Brill, 2013), „Governance and Rule of Law in China“ (ed., Brill, 2012), and „Democracy Is A Good Thing“ (Brookings, 2010).
