The digital lecture series “Chinese Perspectives: China and the World through the Eyes of Scholars” presents – in its third annual edition – leading Chinese scientists and their positions on current issues and developments in China and the world. Through lectures and the possibility for direct exchange and discussion, the series aim is to enter into dialogue and make perspectives of Chinese scholars accessible for European public debate.

The series is jointly organized by Confucius Institute at Freie Universität Berlin and Confucius Institute Metropolis Ruhr, in cooperation with Confucius Institute at Università Cattolica del Sacro Cuore, Confucius Institute at Milan State University and Confucius Institute at University of Rome La Sapienza.

The digital lectures are hosted via Zoom phone and video conference. Registration for the events is required.

The Russia-Ukraine Conflict: China’s Observations and Perspectives from the Global South

The outbreak of the Russia-Ukraine War has shaken the current international order, bringing about significant changes in the geopolitical landscape. Faced with this shift, Chinese intellectuals are contemplating potential new forms of the international system. In his lecture, Yang Ping delves into these emerging global dynamics, examining China’s proposals and perspectives from the global south regarding the reshaping of the international order, outlining a vision for collaborative evolution in international governance.

Yang Ping 杨平 is a renowned Chinese public intellectual and scholar. He is editor-in-chief of the Journal “Beijing Cultural Review” (文化纵横), one of the most important debate journals in contemporary Chinese academic and intellectual circles, and Chairman of the Board of Beijing Longway Economic and Social Research Foundation. In the 1990s, he was co-founder and editor-in-chief of the influential magazine „Strategy and Management“ (战略与管理). In 2004, he participated in the founding and served as the founding secretary-general of the Alashan Ecological Association, which has become one of the most influential environmental protection organizations in China’s public welfare sector.
