From March 29 to March 31, 2018, the mid-term workshop of the comparative research project “Models of Co-operation between Local Governments and Social Organizations in Germany and China – Migration: Challenges and Solutions (LoGoSO Germany China)” took place in Beijing.
LoGoSO Germany China is a joint research project of Freie Universität Berlin, Westfälische Wilhelms Universität Münster and the Chinese Academy of Governance. It is funded by Stiftung Mercator. Katja Levy is one of the three principle investigators and project coordinator.
The research project investigates different models of co-operation between social organizations that provide services to migrants on the one hand and local governments in China and Germany on the other hand. The workshop formally concluded the first project phase and sounded the bell for the field research phase. The meeting was a great opportunity to streamline the common field guide for the research teams and to get to know each other better. In addition, invited Chinese experts on social organizations and migration gave valuable input on questions of research design, comparability of the two countries and current political and local circumstances in the field.
