Prof. Dr. Wiebke Rabe

Wiebke Rabe is assistant professor at the Department of China Studies, Xi’an Jiaotong-Liverpool University (XJTLU). She is also an associated researcher at the Institute of Chinese Studies at FU Berlin. Her most recent work investigates the political economies of transnational local-local relations, China’s global digital clout within the context of South-South cooperation, the global politics of natural resources, and digital public participation and authoritarian regime resilience. Her work has appeared in journals including Energy Policy, the Review of International Political Economy, The China Quarterly and the Journal of Contemporary Asia. Her book (forthcoming with Routledge) sheds new light on Chinese locality-unique institutions in furthering provinces’ outbound investment. Wiebke covers a range of methodological approaches which include fieldwork, surveys and documentary analysis.
