Organic residues analysis as a source on Mediterranean trade, storage and consumption
The question of the impact of political or socio-economic and infrastructural upheavals on ancient food systems and food security is addressed using historical-archaeological and archaeometric proxies. Based on case studies, the results of the analysis of organic residues provide new scientific indicators for the diversity of regional agricultural production, supra-regional trade, food production, storage and consumption, i.e. cooking/eating habits, and contribute to a better understanding of ancient Mediterranean economic and food systems and practices.
Organic residues analyses (ORA) are carried out in cooperation with BioSupramol (https://www.biosupramol.de/, Classical and supramolecular Mass Spectrometry Unit Head, Dr. A. Springer).
