TALK: Tracing an Epistemic Genre: Premodern Arabic Recipe Collections as Resources of Knowledge, by Leonie Böttiger
Gastvortrag im Rahmen des Forschungskolloquiums der Arabistik
Leonie Böttiger (formerly Rau), a researcher at the Max Planck Institute for the History of Knowledge's Research School 'Knowledge and Its Resources', will present her ongoing dissertation research titled “Tracing an Epistemic Genre: Premodern Arabic Recipe Collections as Resources of Knowledge.”
In this talk, Leonie will share insights from her dissertation project, which explores how practical knowledge was transmitted through premodern Arabic technical recipe collections. Leonie’s focus is on the structures and functions of Arabic recipes, tracing their development and evolution from the early 9th century to around the 16th century CE. Her research specifically examines two anonymous collections, primarily consisting of stain removal recipes.
The Research Colloquium led by Prof. Dr. Beatrice Gruendler regularly features international guest speakers in the field or Arabic Studies and related disciplines. Colloquium sessions are being held in a hybrid fashion, combining personal encounter with the advantages of remote access. The shared language is English.
Students of Arabic Studies or related disciplines, visiting scholars, and colleagues are cordially invited to participate, also for single sessions.
