*KALIMAT EVENT* WORKSHOP South-South Comparativism: Histories, Methods, Repertoires

02.07.2025 - 03.07.2025

Organized by Mahmoud Al-Zayed, Magalí Armillas-Tiseyra, Estefanía Bournot, Johannes Stephan.

A joint event by Dahlem Junior Host Program, KALiMaT and the South-South research project.

By critically examining the histories, repertoires, and methods of South-South exchange, solidarities, and comparison, the workshop aims to assess how the paradigm of South-South comparativism reconfigures the geographies of comparison. How to encompass cross-regional dialogues across Asia, Africa, the Caribbean, Latin America, and the Middle East, as well as comparisons within regions and traditions?

What determines which regions, texts, or traditions are brought into dialogue, and how do these choices shape the narratives and frameworks we produce, what are the alternatives to the theories and practices of comparative literature in Euro-America, which dominated practices of reading, contextualizing, and theorizing.

The programme is available online.
