Sebastian Conrad ist Historiker mit einem Schwerpunkt im Feld der Globalgeschichte (nach einer Ausbildung zum Deutschland- und Japanhistoriker). Zu seinen besonderen Interessen gehören politische und kulturelle Zirkulationsprozesse sowie die Geschichte von Kolonialismus und Postkolonialismus. Er hat sich mit Fragen des Staates und der Herrschaft vor allem im Rahmen der Geschichte des Kolonialismus und des Imperialismus beschäftigt.
