Graduation

You can submit your application for graduation immediately after completing your last coursework and/or examination, but no later than four weeks after completing them. You do not have to wait for the grades.

Please note that if you do not submit your application by the deadline, the date on which you submit your application may be used as the graduation date rather than the date of the last examination. You can send the application by e-mail.

You will not be exmatriculated immediately and automatically by the Examination Office, as the Central Student Administration Office is responsible for enrolment and removal from the Register of Students. However, as soon as they are aware of your graduation, you will receive a notification from them.

If necessary, please apply for de-registration yourself so that you can be properly and promptly de-registered.

As soon as the Examination Office has received the application for graduation and all coursework and examinations have been successfully documented in Campus Management, you will usually receive a provisional certificate of completion by e-mail within approximately two weeks. The final documents (certificate, diploma, diploma supplement and transcript of records) will be sent by registered post approximately five weeks after receipt of the certificate of completion.

For German-language degree programs, the following documents will be issued in German:

  • Diploma
  • Degree certificate
  • Diploma Supplement
  •  Transcript

In addition, a translation of the following documents will automatically be issued in English:

For degrees with a graduation date before 1 October 2023, English degree documents (please see note below) can still be issued retrospectively. If you require these, please contact the Examination Office by email.

Please note: An English transcript will not be issued. An exception is made for English-language degree programs, for which an English transcript will also be issued.

The Examination Office will issue a maximum of three authentications of your final documents on request. The authenticated documents will then be sent to you by post.

Note: Please provide your current address with your enquiry.

You must be enrolled to complete open coursework (regular and active participation in courses)! You no longer need to be enrolled to take examinations. The examinations include, for example, BA thesis/ MA dissertation and, if applicable, oral examination (incl. registration), module examinations (term papers, written examination etc.).

Your lecturers can continue to enter the assessments in CM even after exmatriculation. The Study and Examination Office will also continue to have access to your CM after your de-registration.
