Stephanie Langin-Hooper
We welcomed Prof. Dr. Stephanie Langin-Hooper (SMU Dallas) as a visiting scholar at the Institute for Near Eastern Archaeology.
From 19 to 30 May 2025, Prof. Langin-Hooper conducted research at the FU Berlin on the visual culture of Hellenistic Babylon, with a particular focus on processes of miniaturisation (seals, terracotta figurines).
We are particularly pleased to announce two lectures by her: as part of the Research Colloquium of Near Eastern Archaeology and Ancient Near Eastern Studies, she presented the topic ‘Sealing Your Fate: Zodiac Astrology, Movement, and Replication of the Divine Image in Hellenistic Babylonian Seals and Seal Impressions’ (21 May 2025). She also gave us an insight into her current research during the workshop ‘Meant to Move. Kinetic expression in figurines from ancient Western Asia and the Eastern Mediterranean’ (22–23 May 2025).
