Professor Hyun is devoted to research and teaching of Korean as second language. During her stay at FU Berlin, she plans to develop a Korean language textbook for an academic purpose, especially for German and European readers. She received her doctoral degree at Ewha Womans University with her research on task based Korean textbook construction for German speakers. Before she accepted the invitation from the Institute of Korean Studies at FU Berlin, she worked at Ewha Womans University Language Institute as its head professor, at the Korean Language School of the Korean Consulate in Osaka, Japan as its executive director, and at the Korean Division of the Korea National Defense Language Institute as its senior teaching director and head professor. In 2011 she won the national prize for academic excellence for her book, Teaching Korean Vocabulary (어휘교육론). She currently serves as the research director at the Korean language research division of the Kyung-Hee University Art and Cultural Law Institute.
