Prof. Dr. Cihan Osmanağaoğlu-Karahasanoğlu ist tätig am Lehrstuhl für Rechtsgeschichte an der juristischen Fakultät der Istanbul Universität. Sie promovierte am Lehrstuhl für Öffentliches Recht der Istanbul Universität zum Thema “Tanzimat Dönemi İtibarıyla Osmanlı Tabiiyyetinin Gelişimi (Die Entwicklung der osmanischen Staatsbürgerschaft seit der Tanzimat-Ära)”. Sie habilitierte sich am selben Lehrstuhl zum Thema “1862 Rum Patrikliği Nizamatı Çerçevesinde Fener-Rum Ortodoks Patrikhanesi (Das griechisch-orthodoxe Patriarchat in Fener im Rahmen der Verordnung des griechischen Patriarchats von 1862)”. Sie schrieb zahlreiche Artikel und Bücher über die türkisch-osmanischen Rechtsgeschichte. Zu ihren neuesten Veröffentlichungen gehören das Buch “Klasik Dönem Osmanlı Hukukunda Hırsızlık Suçu ve Cezası (Diebstahl und seine Bestrafung im osmanischen Recht in der klassischen Ära)” und der Artikel “Tarihi Kökeninden Hareketle Türkiye Cumhuriyeti Medeni Hukukunda Resepsiyon (Die zivilrechtliche Rezeption der Republik Türkei auf der Grundlage ihrer historischen Ursprünge)”.
İlyas Çalışkan is PhD Candidate at the department of political science at Galatasaray University. His PhD dissertation is titled: Transformation of the Concept of Justice at the late Ottoman Empire.
He will discuss the text of the Tanzimat Edict as document representing a pinnacle and highly intense stage of legal transformation at the late Ottoman Empire. The main aim in this presentation is to locate the Tanzimat Edict in the middle of intersection between relics of long tradition of circle of justice, and newly established way of promulgating systematical encompassing law system. He will map out certain legal traditions and space of law in order to determine the paradigm of change by recoursing to concepts of penalty code (Ceza Kanunnâmesi) and land code (Arazi Kanunnâmesi).
