KEC Special Lecture Series on North Korea - Jaehun Pak

Lecturer:

Pak Jae Hun (Director of Research and Planning, Korea Media Co., Ltd. (www.dprkmedia.com))

PAK Jae Hun is the Director of Research and Planning of Korea Media (조선언론정보기지), a company operating a database service for newspaper articles, other written documents, and pictures published by the Democratic People's Republic of Korea. He also is a collaborative researcher at the Economic Research Institute for Northeast Asia (ERINA). 

Pak graduated from the Faculty of Business Administration of Korea University in Tokyo and majored in economics at Rikkyo University, also in Tokyo. His area of expertise is the economy of the DPRK.

Pak is a third-generation Zainichi Korean living in Japan. His first visit to the DPRK was in 1983. Between 1995 and 2019, he visited the DPRK once a year for fieldwork and research exchanges.

Abstract:

In his presentation, Pak Jae Hun will use photographs he himself has taken on his visits to the DPRK to talk about recent trends in the production and consumption of consumer goods, notably the trend towards domestic production and an increased diversification in the range of products that can be observed for the last two decades.
