Research

The research conducted in Global History focuses on a wide array of phenomena of nineteenth- and twentieth-century history. All of the different research projects combine an interest in a specific place and time with a global perspective. Geographically, they relate to the histories of various world regions, including East Asia, Latin America, Russia, Europe, Africa, and the Middle East.

Through collaborative work and regular conversations, our research activity is strongly anchored in exchanges with international partner institutions and colleagues. Current research projects include the Global Urban History network, The Emmy Noether Research Group Reaching the People and the graduate school on Global Intellectual History. The book series Global History provides a forum for research on the relations between different societies and regions as well as their embeddedness in global history.

Recent publications and completed projects reflect the wide range of research projects pursued by faculty members. Further information on current research can be found on the individual faculty pages.
