BabMed guest lecture by Michele Cammarosano, Universität Würzburg: "Cuneiform Palaeography in 3D or All You Wanted to Know About Wedges but Were Afraid to Ask"

30.06.2014

The presentation will offer an insight into the potential of 3D imaging for cuneiform studies, based on research carried out in the frame of the joint project “3D-Joins und Schriftmetrologie” (University of Würzburg, Technical University of Dortmund, Academy of Sciences and Literature, Mainz). The overview will focus on the reconstruction of the stylus and on the investigation of writing technique(s), combining textual and iconographical sources with a computer-assisted analysis of the geometrical structure of cuneiform script. Such an approach, it will be argued, may open up new perspectives in the investigation of scripts and scribal hands within the domain of cuneiform palaeography.
