About

The interdisciplinary Forum Gender and Diversity Studies (IFGD) is a research-oriented unit of the Department of History and Cultural Studies. It serves the cooperation within the department as well as external cooperation’s and has the goal to implement gender and diversity Studies in teaching, research and practice. The forum offers an operative structure for the members of the department for activities in this academic field and is organized and supported by the IFGD members.

The Forum intends to

  • To establish questions of gender and diversity studies as an integral part of teaching and research in the Department of History and Cultural Studies,

  • To encourage theacademicexchange of colleagues working in the department with regard to gender and diversity studies and to support project-oriented cooperation,

  • To promote the next generation ofacademicsthrough specific courses and teaching methods,

  • To strengthen and expand international contacts through cooperation,

  • To make the research activitiesconcerningtopics of gender and diversityaccessible to a wider public,

  • To actively engage withissuesof gender equality and develop strategies for the implementation of the research-oriented gender equality standards formulated by the DFG,

  • To decide on the award of the Hedwig-Hintze Women's PhD Prize in consultation with the Women's Representative and the Dean's Office of the Department,

  • To award the Prize of the Department of History and Cultural Studies for Gender Studies at Freie Universität Berlin once a year for an outstandingMaster's thesis.
