The Department of History and Cultural Studies has a more than ten-year long tradition of utilising digital media, tools and methods in research, teaching, presentation and communication. With new developments in information technology and the greater distribution of the internet, Digital Humanities continues to grow in significance. This is reflected by a multitude of digital projects and offerings in the department. These cover a broad spectrum, including object databases, digital editions, online publications, e-learning/blended learning, research data management, retro-digitalisation, virtual research environments and online exhibitions.

In the area of study and teaching versatile offerings allow students to build digital media competence and become familiar with digital tools and methods. We also work on theoretical and methodical reflection of Digital Humanities in research, teaching and education. In the course of these projects, the department has gained considerable digital expertise.
