I am a Fellow of the Institute for Advanced Studies in the Humanities (Kulturwissenschaftlichen Institut) (Essen) of the Wissenschaftszentrum Nordhein-Westfalen (1992/93 and 1998). In Paderborn I was speaker for the DFG-Graduate Colleges “Travel Literature and Cultural Anthropology” (“Reiseliteratur und Kulturanthropologie”) (1998-2002) as well as head of the NRW research group “Anthropology and Culture” (“Anthropologie und Kultur”) (1993-1996), “Cultural Studies in NRW” (“Kulturwissenschaften in NRW”) (1996-1999), “Culture as Text and Image” (“Kultur als Text und Bild”) (2000-2002).
