TALK: OpenITI-SHARIAsource Experts Workshop — Theodore Beers

Sep 29, 2022 - Sep 30, 2022

In September 29th-30th, 2022, Theodore S. Beers gives a talk on on digital infrastructure in the AnonymClassic project in the Open Islamicate Texts Initiative (OpenITI) workshop convened by OpenITI AOCP and SHARIAsource projects principal investigators, Sarah Bowen Savant, Maxim Romanov, and Intisar Rabb, at the University of Maryland, College Park.

This workshop is a part of Phase I of the Open Islamicate Texts Initiative Arabic-script OCR Catalyst Project (OpenITI AOCP)—a three-year project generously funded by The Mellon Foundation. SHARIAsource, a project of the Program in Islamic Law (PIL) at Harvard Law School (both led by Intisar Rabb), has played a leading role in the technical development of the OpenITI AOCP. The workshop brings together leading scholars of Arabic, Persian, and Islamic Studies to learn about the significant advancements made in the past three years and plans for the next three years. Most importantly, the digital scholarly publications and the improvement of the OpenITI digital corpus soon-to-be-released (publicly) digital text production pipeline, eScriptorium, is being presented, tested and discussed.
