Jan 13, 2022 | 12:00 PM

Research Colloquium Kalīla and Dimna – AnonymClassic

Heba Tebakhi invites actress and storyteller Hanin Tarabay to talk about her work and the tradition of storytelling.

Heba Tebakhi is a member of Friedrich Schlegel Graduiertenschule für Literaturwissenschaftliche Studien of Freie Universität Berlin, as well as a member of the PalREAD ERC research project. In her PhD project on "Die mündlichen Erzähler*innen in Palästina und der Diaspora" (Storytellers in Palestine and the diaspora), she researches about contemporarty oral traditions and collects folktales from Palestine. Hanin Tarabay's folktales represent the stories told by the Palestinians, who live in 48 areas.

Hanin Tarabay (Sakhnin/IL) is a Palestinian storyteller, actress and researcher, who specialized in theatre studies. Her Master’s thesis investigates the connection between gender studies and art. Her work with stories focuses on folktales, mythologies, and personal stories.

In her presentation, Hanin Tarabay reports about her work as a storyteller and theater actress, and in particular about her relationship with Kalīla and Dimna as part of the Palestinian oral heritage. And about how the Kalīla wa-Dimna stories are still being told today.

The AnonymClassic research colloquium promotes a number of international guest speakers in alternation with close reading sessions on manuscript editing and presentations of the team’s research topics. Discussion of methodological approaches and digital humanities issues remain key interests of the AnonymClassic research colloquium.

Until further notice, sessions are scheduled as remotely accessible; team, students and guests meet virtually every Thursday from 12:15 to 1:45 pm (CET). Colleagues, visiting scholars, and students (Arabic studies or related disciplines) are cordially invited to participate. We especially welcome researchers based elsewhere than Freie Universität Berlin to join us for any one (or more) sessions.
