A lecture at the “Thinking with Islamicate Manuscripts” summer school at Central European University, Vienna July 1, 2025. 

As part of the Thinking with Islamicate Manuscripts summer school held at Central European University in Vienna (June 30–July 11, 2025), Khouloud Khalfallah and Marwa M. Ahmed delivered a lecture on July 1st titled "Manuscript Variations and Textual Mutability: The Case of Kalīla wa-Dimna."
In her talk Khouloud Khalfallah explored how to understand and embrace textual variety in manuscript traditions, using Kalīla wa-Dimna as a case study. Her talk reflected on the complexities of working with multiple Arabic versions of the text and highlighted the phenomenon of textual mobility (mouvance). At the end of the session, Marwa M. Ahmed presented the project’s digital platform, giving participants insight into the tools and approaches used to navigate variation in manuscript traditions. The session blended methodological reflection with interactive elements to engage students in the challenges of transmission and variation within the Arabic manuscript tradition.
