Alexander Treiger is Associate Professor of Religious Studies at Dalhousie University in Halifax, Nova Scotia (on the eastern coast of Canada). His current research focuses on Arab Christianity, Arabic philosophy, and Islamic theology, with emphasis on the transmission of theological and mystical ideas from Late Antiquity to early Islam. He is particularly interested in the interactions between Greek, Syriac, and Arabic-speaking Christians and Muslims in the early Islamic period and the influence that such interactions exercised on the development of Islamic thought. This is also the subject of the course that Alexander Treiger will be teaching in the MA program Intellectual Encounters of the Islamicate World.
