Geschichte und Gesellschaft publishes essays, discussion contributions, reviews, and news about the field of history. Most issues will be released with an overarching theme; essays in such an issue will focus on a particular topic. A general theme for each issue allows for authors to provide varying insights into a topic and add to academic discussion. Articles not fitting a chosen theme may be chosen to appear in mixed topic issues.
Readers and editors are excited to hear proposals for a themed issue or for a single manuscript. Before an essay or an issue is published it passes the editing process which includes a double-blind-review.
Proposing a themed issue:
For a themed issue proposal the editorial office asks you to submit a two-page synopsis that explains the relevance and layout of your proposed issue. Please also name proposed authors with his/her title and include a short abstract of each article. Your proposal for an issue will then be debated among the reviewers and the editors. Once your proposal has been debated, you will receive a reply letting you know if your proposal has been accepted. An acceptance will include a set schedule and a publication date for that particular issue.
Free-lance submissions:
The editors would be happy to receive articles on a topic of your choosing. All submissions should be sent as a Word Document. Before being selected for an issue, the submitted article will be debated among the editors and will then go through a double-blind peer review process, preserving the anonymity of the author and the reviewers. If the reviewer suggests that the article requires revision before being published in Geschichte und Gesellschaft, the article will be returned to the author for corrections. Once the author has completed revisions, the article will be reviewed once more. You will receive a galley proof print of your article to do final edits before the article will be ready for print.
By submitting to Geschichte und Gesellschaft, you are agreeing that you will not be submitting the same article to another publication and that the article is not already available online as a free download.
Formatting:
Please check the submission and formatting guidelines for the journal; they are available for download below. Pictures and illustrations can be included in GG, but they must come from a reliable source, contribute to the argument of the article, and you must ensure that you have obtained the rights to print the image. Please send us the file as a vector graphic (eps, ps) or as a pixel graphic (jpeg) with a minimum resolution of 600dpi.
