Studienaufbau Master Ägyptologie
The MA program Egyptology consists of three different parts, which will be accomplished in four semesters: classes of the required modules, elective modules, and the MA thesis.
Please note, that the language in which classes are conducted will be German!
Required modules:
The Egyptological Seminar offers six required modules:
- Sprach- und Schriftgeschichte des Ägyptischen
- Philologie und Textkultur
- Ägyptische Archäologie und Denkmälerkunde
- Theorie und Interpretation in der Ägyptischen Archäologie
- Methoden der Ägyptologie
- Geschichte und Kulturgeschichte des Alten Ägypten
Elective modules
In this section – which comprises 30 credit points – students have to choose MA modules from other departments (at least 15 credit points). It is recommended to choose classes from Ancient Near Eastern Archaeology, Ancient Near Eastern Languages and History, Classical Archaeology, Prehistoric Archaeology and Social- and Cultural Anthropology. It is not possible to take BA courses.
Also, it is recommended to discuss the participation in an elective module with the person in charge of the MA program Egyptology and the lecturer of the desired class. How many credit points one will get for a class outside the Egyptological Seminar and the requirements, depend on the exam and study regulation of the department that provides the desired class.
