Conference 'Post-Cinematic Perspectives'

22.11.2013 - 23.11.2013

An international conference organized in the frame of the CRC 626 "Aesthetic Experience and the Dissolution of Artistic Limits" by Lisa Åkervall and Chris Tedjasukmana in cooperation with the ICI Berlin

With Lisa Åkervall, Maeve Connolly, Shane Denson, Ursula Frohne, Ulrike Hanstein, Gabrielle Hezekiah, Volker Pantenburg, Sven Seibel, Steven Shaviro and Chris Tedjasukmana

The proliferation of video installations, computer games, and mind game films in contemporary media cultures has thrown the question of perspective in the moving image into stark relief. These post-cinematic media rearticulate a deconstruction of perspective instigated by earlier experiments experiments in early cinema, the 1920s avant-garde, and the expanded cinema of the 1970s. The international and transdiciplinary conference “Post-Cinematic Perspectives” aims at discussing these changes of optical and narrative perspective in post-cinematic media and apparatuses. The conference will present art historical, philosophical, film and media theoretical reflections on perspective in post-cinema as well as the changed status of the spectator-observer.
