This event is open to all international students who have a confirmed study place. You don't need to be enrolled yet to participate.
Moving to a new country can feel overwhelming: unfamiliar bureaucracy, new support systems, and countless everyday routines to figure out. This session is designed to help you take your first confident steps in Germany and prepare for a smooth start to your studies.
What to expect:
This time, you won't only have our peer mentors by your side — we're also excited to welcome guest speaker Sajjad Hoseinifakhr from the Zentraleinrichtung Studienberatung und Psychologische Beratung (Central Student Counselling and Psychological Counselling Service) at Freie Universität Berlin. Together with our peer mentors guiding you along the way, he'll walk you through the first steps of settling into life in Germany, including:
- Registering (Anmeldung) at the city hall
- Finding accommodation
- Your first visit to the immigration office (Ausländerbehörde) and the next steps for your residence permit
- Health insurance basics
- … and everything else you'd like to know
