New Spotlight: Prosopographia Memphitica. Individual Identities and Collective Biographies from a Royal Residence of the New Kingdom

In order to establish a complete and sufficiently regional prosopography of the Memphite society during the 2nd millennium BC the creation of a complex relational database model using PostgreSQL has begun. The digital data collection currently comprises more than 4900 research objects. The database will be a citable web publication, which ensures the continuity of editing data respectively, the recording of new data, and data-storage as well as long-term provision of research results in a structured file format (JSON). The investigation of prosopographical data by means of prosopography helps to illuminate the common characteristics of historical individuals and groups of persons by means of a collective study of their lives as attested in historical sources. Due to the fact that prosopographical data provides not only information of individual identities, but is relational data by which individuals can be connected to each other, the personal interrelations within a social community or network of persons can be reconstructed by means of network analyses. A prosopographical network represents a historical group of persons made up by individual actors and their relations, which can be analyzed through the use of networks and graph theory.
