Event within the framework of the Arabo-Byzantine Workshop: Towards a Cross-Disciplinary Analysis of Eastern Mediterranean Sources
As part of the Arabo-Byzantine Workshop: Towards a Cross-Disciplinary Analysis of Eastern Mediterranean Sources, Prof. Dr. Beatrice Gruendler delivers a lecture titled ‘Kalīla wa-Dimna’ — A Fluid Textual Tradition at a Glance on Wednesday, 20 May 2026, at 10:00 at the École française de Rome (EFR). The lecture will take place within the panel Classical and Digital Philology and will explore the complex textual transmission and multilingual manuscript tradition of Kalīla wa-Dimna, one of the most influential works of premodern world literature.
The workshop brings together scholars working across disciplines and linguistic traditions in order to examine Eastern Mediterranean sources from interconnected historical, philological, and cultural perspectives. It is organized by the École française de Rome (EFR) and the Istituto Storico Italiano per il Medio Evo (ISIME) within the framework of the Middle Ages Spring School 2026.
