In cooperation with the Jewish Museum Berlin, the Institute of Jewish Studies hosted a book presentation followed by a discussion on 29 January 2026 on the occasion of the publication of Peter Schäfer’s book, released in August 2025.

The former director of the Jewish Museum Berlin presents the intellectual history of Jewish Studies in his new book from a personal perspective.

As part of the event, he introduced his intellectual biography and discussed key themes of the book—such as the question of the limits of academic independence—in conversation with Andreas Brämer, Rector of the Hochschule für Jüdische Studien Heidelberg, and Reimund Leicht, Head of the Institute of Jewish Studies at Freie Universität Berlin.

The evening was a great success with numerous guests, and the Institute of Jewish Studies would like to thank all participants and contributors.
