Dr. Mark Jones is one of Ireland's most successful young historians. Since 2012 he has been awarded more than EUR 320,000 in major funding grants from the European Union and the Irish Research Council. His first book has been accepted for publication with Cambridge University Press.
Mark currently holds an Irish Research Council International Career Development Fellowship (Elevate Fellowship co-funded by Marie Curie Actions). With this fellowship, Mark will spend two years at the Freie Universität, before returning to University College Dublin to begin the fellowship's final year in October 2016.
Since completing his PhD at the European University Institute in Florence in 2011, Mark's research has focused upon the relationship between violence and the language of politics in Germany during the first two decades of the twentieth century - an extension of his doctoral research on violence and politics in the German Revolution of 1918-19. At the Freie Universität, Mark will continue this ongoing work, as he sets out to combine the insights of global history with those of cultural and new political history to produce a new account of German politics during the first two decades of the twentieth century.
