This lecture provides an insight into the digital research of Classical Maya script as part of the ‘Classical Maya Text Database and Dictionary’ project at the University of Bonn. The focus is on digital methods in epigraphy, including the creation of a digital character catalogue, the cataloguing of inscriptions in XML/TEI, image databases, and the 3D documentation of monuments. Using selected examples, the talk demonstrates how visualisation, materiality and digital annotation open up new perspectives on inscribed and pictorial objects and contribute to the analysis and decipherment of Maya script.
