„Dare to dig deeper!“ A new master's programme will launch at Freie Universität Berlin in the 2026/2027 winter semester, based on this theme.

The newly established two-year consecutive MA in Ancient Worlds – Interdisciplinary Classical Studies is an attractive, innovative programme that brings the wide range of opportunities offered by Berlin’s research landscape into university teaching based on the principles of academic excellence, interdisciplinary collaboration, and flexibility in course selection. The programme has an international focus and, unlike comparable programmes in Germany, offers a wide range of courses taught in English.

The programme encompasses the subjects of Egyptology, Ancient Near Eastern Studies, Archaeoinformatics, Classical Archaeology, Prehistoric Archaeology, Near Eastern Archaeology and the History of Ancient Knowledge, each of which can be chosen as a specialisation. In addition, there is an interdisciplinary specialisation entitled ‘Ancient Worlds’. Depending on the specialisation and the lecturer, courses are taught in either German or English.

Find out more about the new Master’s programme online on 29 May 2026, 1–2 pm
