It is our pleasure to invite you to the third event of our third annual lecture series "The Long Ninth Century in Arabic-Islamic Knowledge and Culture" at the Freie Universität Berlin (Room 2.2058, second floor)

on 28 June2016 at 6pm (s.t.).

The lecture series is organised and moderated by Prof Beatrice Gründler.

Geert Jan van Gelder, who studied Semitic Languages at the Universities of Amsterdam and Leiden and was employed as Lecturer in Arabic at the University of Groningen until 1998, when he was elected Laudian Professor of Arabic at the University of Oxford will give a lecture entitled

"From Seriousness to Jest and vice versa in the Geography of Ibn al-Faqīh al-Hamadhānī (fl. 289/902)".

After the lecture, there will be the opportunity to take part in informal discussions while enjoying wine and pretzels.
