- Lecture Title: Circulating Korea: Commodities, Globalisation and the Korean Wave

- Lecturer:  Gwendolyn Domning is a research associate at the Institute of Korean Studies, Freie Universität Berlin, and a visiting researcher at CEPEC (Université Paris Cité). Her research interests include Korean politics, media, and culture, as well as the relations between Korea and Germany and the impact of the Korean Wave. She has published on the topic of anti-corruption reforms in South Korea and the impact of the Korean Wave on German society.

- Lecture Abstract: This presentation explores the historical trajectory of the Korean Wave through the lens of Arjun Appadurai's work. In reference to his ideas on disjuncture and difference, circulation, and the social life of things, it considers how the historical exchanges since the opening of the Korean ports in 1876 can be interpreted and framed in relation to the contemporary global movement of Korean culture.
