LECTURE: The Ḥakawātī Tradition in Palestine and the Diaspora, with Heba Tebakhi and Sally Shalabi
This lecture explores the Palestinian storytelling tradition of the Ḥakawātī and its contemporary expressions in Palestine and the diaspora. The program begins with a short presentation by Heba Tebakhi, a Palestinian researcher and lecturer at Freie Universität Berlin whose work focuses on Palestinian literature, particularly oral literature and prison literature. Her talk provides an overview of the Ḥakawātī tradition in Palestine and its historical and contemporary developments. The second part of the event features Palestinian storyteller Sally Shalabi, who joins online to discuss her work as a storyteller in the diaspora and the role of oral storytelling traditions in contemporary Palestinian cultural life. The session concludes with an open discussion with the audience.
