Liebe Studierende der Arabistik und am Fachbereich, 
Liebe Kolleg/innen

bereits im November 2024 haben wir uns mit einem ähnlichen Aufruf "Starte-durch-mit-Unterstützung " an Sie alle gewandt. Seit mehreren Wochen erleben wir nun jeden Tag von Neuem mit, wie die Lage im Libanon immer katastrophaler wird. Wir wissen, dass sich viele von Ihnen um Familienangehörige und nahestehende Bekannte sorgen. Die Not, welche Flucht, Vertreibung und die Gefahr für Leib und Leben im Libanon und anderen Kriegsschauplätzen im Nahen Osten verursachen, ist auch bei uns zu spüren. Als Kolleginnen und Kollegen des Instituts für Arabistik möchten wir alle Betroffenen unseres ausdrücklichen Mitgefühls versichern. 

Falls Sie merken, dass die Situation Auswirkungen auf Ihren Studienverlauf nimmt, wenden Sie sich bitte an Ihre Dozierenden. In allen Studienangelegenheiten versuchen wir, die beste Lösung zu finden. Bei besonderer psychischer Belastung bietet die Universität zudem ein ausgebautes Netz an Unterstützungsmöglichkeiten für Sie.

Unser Institut hält enge Kontakte in den Libanon. Auch unsere wissenschaftlichen Partnerinstitutionen und Kolleginnen und Kollegen, mit denen wir seit Jahren eng verbunden sind, leiden unter den Auswirkungen des Krieges. Wir haben den Wunsch, den Menschen vor Ort zu helfen, wenngleich unsere Möglichkeiten zu handeln gering sind. Die Not ist drängend, die Versorgungslage in jeder Hinsicht eingeschränkt. Wir unterstützen daher verschiedene Hilfsorganisationen, die im Libanon im Einsatz sind, mit Spenden und möchten auch Sie und ihren Bekanntenkreis darauf aufmerksam machen.

Folgende drei Organisationen aus Deutschland stiften intensive Hilfe. Ausführlichere Infos zu den spezifischen Aktivitäten finden Sie auf den verlinkten Webseiten:

• Medico international – unterstützt direkt libanesische Partner-NGOS; zum einen Amel International mit Gesundheitszentren und mobilen Kliniken, zum anderen Nashet mit Nothilfe für Flüchtende
• Ärzte ohne Grenzen – Unterstützt mit der Ausstattung von Notunterkünften und medizinischer Grundversorgung, mit medizinischen Kleinteams vor Ort, kooperiert mit libanesischen Behörden und lokalen Organisationen, schult neues medizinisches Personal
• Deutsches Rotes Kreuz – liefert kontinuierlich Hilfsgüter, Fokus auf Erste Hilfe, mobile Gesundheitsversorgung und Verteilung lebenswichtiger Güter, arbeitet vor Ort mit dem Libanesischen Roten Kreuz und Halbmond zusammen, die reibungslose Arbeit wird zudem durch das Auswärtige Amt und die EU gefördert

Wir hoffen, dass wir gemeinsam gut durch diese schwierigen Zeiten kommen.

Appeal for donations | Lebanon

Dear students of Arabic Studies and the Faculty,
Dear colleagues

back in November 2024, we reached out to you with a similar appeal. For several weeks now, we have been witnessing day after day how the situation in Lebanon is becoming increasingly dire. We know that many of you are worried about family members and close acquaintances. The hardship caused by flight, displacement and the danger to life and limb in Lebanon and other theaters of war in the Middle East can also be felt here. As colleagues at the Institute of Arabic Studies, we would like to express our sympathy to all those affected. 

If you notice that the situation is affecting your studies, please contact your lecturers. We will try to find the best solution in all study matters. If you are experiencing particular psychological stress, the university also offers you an extensive network of support options.

Our institute maintains close contacts in Lebanon. Our academic partner institutions and colleagues, with whom we have had close ties for many years, are also suffering from the effects of the war. We have the desire to help the people on the ground, even though our ability to act is limited. The need is urgent and the supply situation is limited in every respect. We are therefore supporting various aid organizations working in Lebanon with donations and would also like to share this with you and your circle of acquaintances.

The following three organizations from Germany are providing intensive aid. More detailed information on the specific activities can be found on the linked websites:

• Medico international – directly supports Lebanese partner NGOS; on the one hand Amel International with health centers and mobile clinics, on the other hand Nashet with emergency aid for refugees
• Médecins Sans Frontières – Supports with the equipment of emergency shelters and basic medical care, with small medical teams on site, cooperates with Lebanese authorities and local organizations, trains new medical staff
• German Red Cross – continuously delivers relief supplies, focus on first aid, mobile health care and distribution of vital goods, works locally with the Lebanese Red Cross and Crescent, the smooth work is also supported by the Federal Foreign Office and the EU
