Dr. Cinzia Pappi ist Altorientalistin und vorderasiatische Archäologin mit einem Schwerpunkt auf den Kulturlandschaften Mesopotamiens des 2. und 1. Jahrtausends v. Chr. Sie promovierte an der Universität Udine (Italien) und war an mehreren internationalen Universitäten und Forschungsprojekten tätig, darunter an der Universität Leipzig, der Brown University (USA), der Universität Innsbruck (Österreich) sowie am Einstein Center Chronoi der Freien Universität Berlin.

Ihre Forschung konzentriert sich auf religiöse Topographie, politische Strukturen und materielle Kultur des Alten Vorderen Orients. Im Rahmen von Chronoi leitete sie gemeinsam mit Prof. Dr. Eva Cancik-Kirschbaum zwei Explorationsprojekte: Synchronwelten, das sich mit chronologischen Synchronismen im 2. Jahrtausend v. Chr. befasst, sowie The Multiple Life of Hammurabi, das die Rezeption der historischen Figur Hammurabis in unterschiedlichen zeitlichen und kulturellen Kontexten untersucht. Seit mehreren Jahren leitet sie archäologische Ausgrabungen in Irakisch-Kurdistan (Satu Qala, Qala Shila, Archaeological Survey of the Koya Project) und hat zahlreiche Publikationen zu Urbanismus, Ritualräumen und politischer Geographie veröffentlicht.

Im Rahmen des Projektes HyMes übernimmt Frau Dr. Pappi koordinierende Aufgaben in Unterstützung der Projektleitung und erforscht die Hydrographie sowie die Kanalisierung Babyloniens im 2. Jahrtausend v. Chr.
